Bam Margera took to social media to push back after his estranged wife recently filed for formal divorce papers.
The 43-year-old Jackass star, whose boyfriend Steve-O has spoken publicly about his concerns about Margera’s health and safety, shared a photo of himself, his wife Nikki Boyd, 38, and their son Phoenix, now five, on Instagram from a happier time.
“I am very disappointed with what Nikki and her lawyer have said publicly about me as a father. I love my son more than anything in this world,” Margera wrote.
“I actually supported my son. No one knows my side of the story and that makes me sad. But hopefully someday they will.’
Boyd filed for legal separation on Feb. 14 after nine years of marriage.
She listed the divorce date as September 2021, allegedly citing irreconcilable differences.
In a statement to People, her attorney David Glass wrote, “Nikki Margera felt compelled to file for legal separation because of his ongoing drug and alcohol abuse, erratic behavior, and for not supporting her. and their son.’
“Nikki did everything she could to get Bam sober and save her family.”
Boyd has asked for legal and physical custody of Phoenix, and Margera has allowed supervised visits, provided they take place in LA County, provided he pays the costs.
She would also seek spousal support.
Margera has been in and out of rehab several times before his estranged wife filed papers, and many of his fans, who have followed his career and antics for years, served up some tough love on his Instagram post.
One of them wrote a lengthy statement saying, “Stop pointing the finger at everyone for your own behavior. It won’t help you in the long run, Bam. You have to take responsibility to become the man you can be.’
Another example followed with the following admonishing him: ‘Choose sobriety and choose to take the steps that will help you keep it for yourself and for your son first. (being like a present, loving dad is what you want)”
“The dude says no one knows his side,” one longtime fan commented. “Well, if you’re constantly coming out of rehab drinking, on video drunk as a dog … you’re saying your side.”
In a cryptic message posted early Sunday morning, it appeared the Viva La Bam star had taken the messages to heart.
He shared a photo of himself at the end of a medieval journey and wrote, “I want to say thank you to everyone, I’ve lost f**kin 55 pounds and I remember who I am, I’m home❤️”
Some hopeful fans shared their own stories, including, “Bro, I’m almost three years sober. Alcohol ruined my life. Getting sober was the best thing that ever happened to me. If I can do it so can you my friend. Good luck.’
