- Isabella Grace Docherty, 5, died suddenly hours after falling ill and collapsing
- Mother, Pamela Little, 38, said they weren’t concerned about her illness at first
- The five-year-old died on Monday, February 13 at Wishaw General Hospital
A devastated family is desperate for answers after their ‘amazing’ five-year-old girl died suddenly after contracting a stomach flu.
Isabella Grace Docherty, known as Bella, 5, died suddenly just hours after falling ill and collapsing at her home in Newarthill, North Lanarkshire.
The five-year-old’s mother, Pamela Little, explained that the family thought “it was nothing serious” and that Bella was unwell due to an emetic virus.
Pamela shared how the feisty young girl still asked for food and was even “in charge” of her family.
However, around 4 a.m. after Bella’s father Brian brought her downstairs after struggling to sleep in her bed, she suddenly vomited and collapsed on the floor.
The 38-year-old mother told the Daily Record: “Brian yelled at me to come down. When I came in he had her in his arms. I brushed her hair out of her face and my instincts told me she was gone.
“We called an ambulance and did CPR, a neighbor came to help until the ambulance came and after that it’s just a nightmare.
“I just remember seeing her face and realizing something bad had happened.
Bella passed away at Wishaw General Hospital on Monday, February 13, despite the paramedic’s best efforts to save her life.
Last year, after an MRI scan, doctors discovered a non-life-threatening abnormality in Bella’s brain stem.
But Brian and Pamela were told this was unrelated to their daughter’s death.
Pamela added, “She has some issues with her brain, but nothing we were told to worry about.
“Doctors said it could be something she was born with.
“They didn’t know exactly what it was and now they may never find out. She was supposed to go to the hospital last week as an inpatient for some tests, but unfortunately she’s suddenly gone.”
Bella’s autopsy results were inconclusive and the family is still awaiting the results of further tests.
Pamela, who is also mum to Ellie, 13, and Leon, 15, said ‘it kills (them) inside’ without having the answers and the family’s world is turned upside down after Bella’s death.
Describing her youngest child, she said, “We are absolutely devastated. Bella was our funny, caring little diva and now we just want the world to know how amazing she was.”
A fundraising page has been set up to help pay for Bella’s funeral.
Organizer Stacey Banks wrote, “With the family’s permission, I’ve set up this page for anyone who wants to help the family during this devastating time.
“In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Brian and Pamela’s precious Princess Isabella was sadly suddenly taken from them when she was just 5 years old.
“The excruciating pain and suffering the family is going through at this time is unimaginable.
“Any donation to the celebration of our beautiful Bella’s life is greatly appreciated.”
